Contract
NUKEM made a contract with China Nuclear Industry Corporation, acting on behalf of Jiangsu Nuclear Power Corporation, for the design, supply and installation supervision of a waste treatment centre at the Lianyungang Nuclear Power Plant.
Description
The project consists of four phases: Phase I: Basic and Detail Design of the waste treatment centre Phase II: Procurement and delivery of the equipment, including spare parts Phase III: Supervising installation, functional tests and acceptance tests Phase IV: Training of personnel

Services provided by NUKEM Technologies were as follows: Process definition, Basic and Detail Design of the waste treatment processes, including solid waste sorting, in-drum drying of evaporator concentrates, compaction and cementing of spent ion-exchange resins Design of transport tanks for spent resins and sludge as well as air locks to access the waste treatment centre from auxiliary buildings Design of radiation monitoring systems Design of mechanical handling systems Procurement and transport of equipment Supervision of installation, testing and commissioning Project management
